Oats are the Healthiest Breakfast
You only need to get onto Google and type in “Health Breakfast Options” and you will find many references to “oats are the healthiest breakfast” at the top of that list. So, let’s just agree then that oats have a very solid reputation and as a whole food breakfast cereal option.
But here are the top 3 reasons why I think Oats is the healthiest breakfast option.
- Fibre of course. It is always a challenge to get enough fibre into our diet on a daily basis. Particularly if you are on the run and live a busy lifestyle like we all do. Four grams of fibre provides you with 15 percent of your daily fibre needs. So, let our GF Oats tick the box to give your body a good dose of daily fibre first thing in the morning.
- Nutritional Support.Rolled oats are packed with essential vitamins and minerals and are naturally low in fat, sugar and sodium. A 1-cup cooked serving oatmeal contains 5 grams of protein and 4 grams of fibre. Both of which will help to fill you up and keep you satisfied all morning long. In addition, oatmeal contains B vitamins, calcium, potassium, iron, selenium, copper, zinc and magnesium.
- Cholesterol and Blood Sugar Control. The type of fibre found in oatmeal is called soluble fibre, which offers protection against heart disease as it helps to lower the low-density lipoprotein type of cholesterol in the body. This soluble fibre works by binding cholesterol in the digestive tract and eliminating it from the body. The evidence linking oats to heart health and cholesterol reduction is very strong. Just as oatmeal provides benefits to those with high cholesterol, oatmeal is a healthy choice for those with diabetes. Because cooked oatmeal is digested slowly, it can help control blood sugar levels and allow a gradual insulin response in those with insulin sensitivity. All in all, the real benefit of the beta-glucan fibre in oats, is its Cholesterol-lowering ability, heart-protecting and waistline-shrinking powers.
