4 Healthy & Delicious Anzac-Inspired Recipes

The Anzac Biscuit has been one of the most iconic snacks in Australia, given the important role it’s played during wartime since WWI.

While it’s often seen as a common day-to-day snack in modern times, it was key in keeping Australian and New Zealand service members well-fed on the battlefield, especially when it was first created during the First World War.

It provided much-needed energy to exhausted soldiers and could survive the weeks-long journeys it took to ship supplies to ANZACs.

At GF Oats, we proudly honour our veterans through our partnership with Legacy Australia, in which a portion of every Anzac Biscuit sale goes towards supporting returned servicemen, servicewomen, and their families.

You can purchase any of our Anzac Biscuits to support our veterans. All GF Oats Anzac Biscuits are approved by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

In the spirit of Anzac, we’ve put together a collection of Anzac-inspired recipes that you can make at home to share in the celebration and reverence for our veterans, past and present.

Oatmeal Pancakes

Oatmeal pancakes are absolutely delicious, and come with the benefit of being a far more nutritional take on classic pancakes. They’re also easy to prepare and cook, making them the perfect morning or lunchtime treat.

This recipe comes from GF Oats’s very own Kylie Hollonds. Originally put forward as a meal to make and enjoy on Shrove Tuesday, the ingredients also make them a perfect option as an Anzac-inspired treat.

Baked Oats with Yoghurt

If you’re looking for a great way to start your day, it’s hard to go wrong with Kylie’s Baked Oats with Yoghurt. Offering a delightful mix of sweet and savoury and packed full of natural energy, it makes for a brilliant breakfast meal.

Combining ingredients like Aussie Traditional Oats, bananas, yoghurt and chia seeds, there’s a whole lot of goodness in every bite. Once all the ingredients are together, you bake it for up to 40 minutes in the oven.

The result is baked oats with a nice balance of softness and crunch, similar in consistency to Anzac biscuits.

A simple, delicious and nutritious breakfast, you can find the full recipe here: Baked Oats with Yoghurt.

Anzac Biscuits

When it comes to Anzac-inspired recipes, they don’t come much more inspired than the iconic biscuit itself. We sell Anzac biscuits you can buy with ease, but if you’d like to make your own delicious batch, we have just the recipe for you.

Based on the traditional recipe and using our rolled oats, you can make your own Anzac biscuits or Anzac slices and enjoy them freshly made.
