Frequently Asked Questions:

Are Oats Gluten Free?

Oats are naturally free from the gluten found in wheat, rye and barley. However, they do have a protein called Avenin that causes problems with a small percentage of Coeliac patients, who need to do an oat challenge before eating oats.

GF Oats are proud to be non-contaminated, and free from the gluten found in wheat, rye and barley. In Australia, we aren't able to call them gluten-free oats like the rest of the world, due to labelling regulations. For more information, feel free to check out our FAQ page

Is It Good to Eat Organic Oats Daily?

Absolutely! Eating organic oats daily can be a beneficial addition to your diet, thanks to their rich nutritional profile and the array of health benefits they offer.

Oats are packed with dietary fibre, particularly a soluble fibre called beta-glucan. Research shows that consuming fibre-rich foods like oats can help with digestion, reduce constipation and promote a feeling of fullness, aiding in weight management. They also contain prebiotics, substances that promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, thus contributing to a balanced gut microbiome.

Regularly eating oats can lower the risk of certain diseases. The beta-glucan fibre in oats can help reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels, lowering the risk of heart disease. Moreover, oats' low glycemic index helps manage blood sugar levels, which benefits individuals with diabetes.

As with all foods, it's important to consume oats as part of a balanced diet and not rely on them solely for nutrition.

What Is the Best Way to Cook Oats?

Stovetop cooking is a great option for those who enjoy a warm, comforting meal. Whether it's traditional, steel-cut or quick oats, cooking them on the stove with your choice of milk or water creates a creamy, satisfying dish. You can further elevate this by adding a variety of toppings, such as fresh fruits, nuts or a drizzle of honey – whatever your fancy

On the other hand, preparing overnight oats can set you up for success if you're looking for a no-cook, time-saving method. Combine your oats with your preferred type of milk in a jar or a bowl, stir well, and then leave it in the refrigerator overnight. By morning, the oats will have absorbed the liquid and softened, resulting in ready-to-eat oatmeal. You can add your favourite mix-ins and sweeteners either before refrigerating or just before eating.

Whether you prefer hot and freshly cooked oats or cold and ready-to-go, the simple preparation methods and the versatility of oats make them a quick, easy, and nutritious choice for a meal at any time of the day.

Beyond breakfast, oats can be incorporated into various recipes, from fibre-boosting smoothies and binding agents in veggie burgers to the base for a hearty, healthy dessert. Experiment with this nutritious grain and discover its myriad possibilities in your kitchen.

What Can Oats Be Used to Make?

Whether you're whipping up breakfast, baking some biscuits, or preparing a dessert, oats are a reliable and healthful ingredient to have on hand.

Muesli

Muesli is a popular breakfast dish where oats take centre stage. Mixed with an array of dried fruits, nuts, and seeds, oats in muesli can be enjoyed cold with yoghurt or milk or even soaked overnight for a ready-to-eat breakfast. This blend creates a fibre-rich, hearty meal that provides sustained energy throughout the morning.

Biscuits

Oats can be used to bake a wide variety of biscuits, from the classic oatmeal raisin to more adventurous combinations like oatmeal chocolate chip or oatmeal cranberry. Oats add a lovely texture and nutty flavour to biscuits, making them a perfect raw ingredient for your recipes!

Puddings

Oats can also be used to create rich and creamy puddings. When cooked with milk and sweetened with ingredients like honey or maple syrup, oats transform into a velvety base that can be flavoured with anything from cinnamon and vanilla to cocoa and coconut. These oat-based puddings make for a comforting dessert or a filling breakfast.
