Top 5 Delicious Savoury Oats Recipes

It goes without saying that we love oats. They’re small but mighty, provide essential nutrients and, best of all, are incredibly versatile. 

Whether you have a sweet or savoury tooth, there are all manner of inventive and satiating recipes you can put together.

In this blog, we’re highlighting five fantastic savoury oats recipes you can try at home, from light offerings to full dinner servings. All of these meals can be made with our range of fantastic and versatile oats!

1) Savoury Overnight Oats Recipe 

First off, why not try your hands at a savoury overnight oats dish? While most people think of the sweet concoctions that are often made for overnight oats (oats, yoghurt, honey, fruits and nuts), you can just as easily put together a hearty savoury variant.

With savoury oats, you’ll be using a mixture of oats with more savoury ingredients like salt, pepper, carrot, peanuts, chilli powder and mustard seeds.

Preparation involves mixing Traditional Oats with plain yoghurt, grated carrot, salt and pepper, which is then covered in a container and left in the fridge overnight.

When you’re ready to dig in the next day, you fry up a few other ingredients in a pan (mustard seeds, curry leaves, peanuts and chilli powder), then add those ingredients to the prepared mix and serve.

2) Savoury Spinach and Feta Pancakes

While classic pancakes can be a wonderful breakfast treat, sometimes you just want something nice and savoury to start the day. With our savoury spinach and feta pancakes, you can still enjoy the wonderful fluffy texture of a pancake while getting your savoury kick.

This recipe combines GF Oats Pancake Mix with ingredients that include spinach, feta, chopped green onions, egg, salt and pepper.

Once all the ingredients are properly mixed, each pancake should only take a few minutes to cook in a skillet or frying pan on medium-high heat.

3) GF Oats Pizza Base 

If you want a healthier alternative to the typical pizza base, then our GF Oats Pizza Base recipe is for you. 

Using GF Oat Flour and cauliflower, you can combine these two ingredients to create a delicious pizza base that is lighter and healthier than traditional offerings.

Whether you’re making a large pizza for a whole family or just want to make a single-serve pizza, this recipe works for all variations.

Once the pizza base ingredients are prepped and mixed, they only need to go in the oven for around 20 minutes. After that, you add your toppings, pop the pizza back in the oven for 10 to 20 minutes, and dig in.

4) Scrambled Oats 

Now, you’ve most likely had scrambled eggs at some point in your life, but have you ever tried scrambled oats?

This recipe is egg-free, making it a great option for vegans or anyone who may not enjoy the taste or texture of eggs. Instead, this recipe makes use of GF Traditional Oats, onion, tomato, peas, and spices such as salt, coriander powder, cumin seeds and turmeric.

This is a simple meal to prepare and will probably take no more than 30 to 45 minutes between preparation and cooking. 

If you still want some egg in your meal, feel free to fry, poach or scramble some on the side. You can enjoy the scrambled oats and eggs together.

5) Oat Crusted Chicken Parma 

Last but certainly not least is the delicious oat-crusted chicken parma. As the name suggests, instead of using breadcrumbs or crushed cornflakes, this parma uses a mix of Aussie Traditional Oats, almond meal, and cumin for its coating.

The recipe is approached in multiple steps, cooking the chicken first, and then creating the coating and applying it to the fillets. Then you focus on cooking the accompanying sweet potatoes. 

Pan-fry the coated chicken fillets on both sides for a few minutes each, then finish them off in the oven for five minutes while topped with tomatoes and feta cheese.
